About

Lithic Breathing is a one night-only performance that will explore Los Angeles’s pipe organs and sea caves, and the ways they can expand and entangle our thinking about listening and resonance, deep time and sense of place. Julia Edith Rigby will premiere her newest work on The Great Organs at FCCLA, one of the largest pipe organs in the world. Improvising with her will be Kafele Williams on trumpet. This will be a work of experimental music / sound art that blends live instrumentation (pipe organ, viola and trumpet), video art, and field recordings to tell stories about planetary histories, deep time, and hearing the un-hearable. The performance will interweave live instrumentation with geological field recordings from local sea caves, opening our ears and minds to experimental listening, infrasonic worlds, and musical soundscapes that explore ancient landscapes. Doors are at 6:30 and the total run time is 1 hour.
