We are excited to continue our summer tradition & present a Hi-Fi listening session of DAMN. by Kendrick Lamar. Released on April 14, 2017, as his fourth studio album. It followed the highly acclaimed To Pimp a Butterfly but took a more accessible and contemporary hip-hop approach while continuing to explore complex themes such as faith, identity, morality, race, and personal struggle. It also gained attention for its unique storytelling, with fans discovering that the tracklist could be played in reverse to reveal an alternate narrative. DAMN. became both a commercial and critical success, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, winning the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album, and making history as the first hip-hop album to earn the Pulitzer Prize. We will be listening to the album front-to-back on our Hi-Fi Sound System at the peak of the evening. This session will be accompanied by Live Jazz sets & K-Dot renditions from The Don Brown Collective, founded by Don Brown-a professionally trained jazz drummer born & raised in South Central Los Angeles. The collective was created to bring musicians together and foster authentic new expression in the LA area. We sold out in a day last year, so act fast.
